Home Up
Charlie Pad

Charlie Pad was the designation for the chopper pad at Dong Tam - where the helicopters were parked.  This is where I caught my ride to the firebases every morning and returned to every evening.  I loved flying in choppers.  This was not true of everyone who served in Nam.  For nurses, inbound helicopters usually meant inbound wounded.  For the troops, there was a love / hate relationship.  Flying out always brought the uncertainty and fear of what was to come once they landed, though they were very glad to see the choppers coming to get them out.
