When I arrived in Dong Tam, there were 6 dogs sharing our hooch.  I became particularly attached to Dusty (above) who was so shell shocked that she would chase a flashlight beam or the reflection from the door knob for hours.  She had 6 puppies and would let only 2 of us get near them.  One is in the next photo.  With all the killing and dying going on, it was such a joy to see new life, so small and innocent.  Unfortunately, such blessings often don't last in war.  I came home from a run one day to find all the dogs were gone.  Several of us tried to get them back but we were told only that they had been taken to the "My Tho Humane Society."  We knew what that meant.
